The presented proceedings of research works of the Research Institute of Geodesy, Topography and Cartography (VUGTK - Czech abbr. VÚGTK) are issuing at conventional intervals of two years.

The endeavour of editors was to present a rounded-off profile of the Institute activity in the last years involving therefore all main domains of problems being solved.

The contents is created partly from survey contributions, partly from contributions that concern in more details the concrete problems being solved.

The introductory contribution is devoted to the conception of the current and the future work of the Institute at the century break. The two further contributions are concerned with the domain of informatics. In the first contribution the question is about development and upkeeping cadastral map by the MicroGEOS system which is beeing developed in the Research Institute, in the second one - about automation of the operation of the library which is a part of the Branch Information Center (Czech abbr. ODIS). The four further contributions have to do with problems that are being solved in the Department of Geodesy and Geodynamics. Besides the first comprehensive contribution the matter in three following ones is about the problems of physical geodesy, establishment of geodetic control of a new generation, and geodynamical studies. The concluding contribution has then reference to the domain of standardization and metrology.

We hope the contributions presented here will give to readers a more rounded image of the Institute activity at the present time.
